Flood watch

Another rainy day has both conservation authorities and Environment Canada warning of possible flooding, particularly in low-lying areas.
Another 20 to 30 millimetres of rain is in the forecast for today, slightly more than what fell Wednesday, but a rainfall warning from Environment Canada says 40 to 50 mm may be possible in localized areas hit by thunderstorms.
The Hamilton Conservation Authority says water levels in creeks and streams have been rising steadily because of the rain, but they remain below critical levels. Its flood watch is currently scheduled to end tomorrow.
Conservation Halton says its reservoirs are available to manage the potential runoff, but people should be wary of fast flowing water and stay away from river banks that might be unstable.
Periods of heavy rain could also temporarily overwhelm storm sewers, and drivers should be wary of potholes if travelling on flooded roads.
