Former NHL star and Olympic gold medalist, Theo Fleury, is hoping to inspire other abuse victims with his new book.

Fleury’s book combines his first hand experience of trauma and abuse with occupational therapist Kim Barthel’s therapeutic insights. He wants to help other survivors to heal and reclaim their lives.

With all the recent abuse allegations on Parliament Hill and with former Q host Jian Ghomeshi, Fleury told CHCH’s Tim Bolen today on Morning Live, it’s a good thing the subject is being discussed publicly.

“It means people are finding the courage and the strength and people are finding their voices, but more importantly it’s the universe hitting us over the head and saying ‘let’s really deal with this, let’s get to the bottom of it in order for the cycle of trauma to stop’.”

“We’ve got to get to the bottom of it, once we get to the underneath of it, we gotta find out why Jian Ghomeshi is going what he’s doing, we gotta find out why Ray Rice is doing what he’s doing, we gotta find out why Adrian Peterson is doing what he’s doing, and once we find that out then we can stop it.”

Fleury and Barthel are traveling across Canada, talking about the importance of learning from mistakes and breaking the cycle of trauma.

Fleury will be returning to Morning Live on December 5th.
