Fleeing burglar crashes into several Halton police cruisers before arrest

A 26-year-old woman is facing a slew of charges after she led police on a pursuit that only ended after the responding officers used a tire deflation device on her car.
On Tuesday, an Oakville resident came face-to-face with an intruder in their garage just as they were getting home.
Upon confronting them, the burglar made a break for it, damaging the homeowners’ vehicle with their getaway car in the process.
Halton police say they were called and able to track down the thief shortly after 8 p.m., a short distance from the residence near Sixth Line and Dundas Street.
Police then attempted to stop the vehicle but were instead met with a chase when the driver attempted to flee.
“In an effort to safely and quickly terminate the pursuit a tire deflation device was successfully deployed allowing officers to stop the vehicle and take the suspect into custody near the intersection of Trafalgar Road and Upper Middle Road,” officials said in an update Wednesday afternoon.
During the pursuit, the woman intentionally crashed into several cruisers in an effort to get away.
Miraculously, no one was hurt but three cop cars were damaged.
After finally stopping the vehicle, police were able to make an arrest.
A search of the vehicle uncovered that it was stolen and had a stash of illicit drugs inside, including cocaine, crack, magic mushrooms and prescription medication.
Police say Chelsi Wade, 26 of no fixed address, has been charged with the following:
- Break and Enter
- Failure to Stop After an Accident
- Flight from a Police Officer
- Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
- Operation while Prohibited
- Assault with Intent to Resist Arrest
- Fail to Comply with Release Order
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order (2 Counts)
- Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking
Wade remains in custody and is scheduled for a bail hearing later this month.
