First group of Canadians leave Gaza

On the one month anniversary of the war, Israel’s defense minister says Israeli forces have stormed Gaza City in a coordinated assault, with troops now in the heart of the metropolis.

Global Affairs says 600 Canadians are stuck in the enclave, and only 59 were able to get out through the Rafah border crossing to Egypt today.

Families of the Canadians trapped are calling on the Canadian government to stand against Israel’s war in the strip, and call for a ceasefire.

Dozens of people have been killed in Israeli air strikes in southern Gaza as troops from Israel engage in fierce fighting with Hamas fighters in the north.
