Fireworks suspected in house fire

A fire possibly linked to fireworks set off to celebrate the Hindu festival of Diwali last night has caused extensive damage to two homes in Brampton.
The fire broke out around 11 pm at 190 Binder Twine Trail, just south of Bovaird Drive — and neighbours say fireworks were going off near the home a short time earlier.
Neighbouring homes were evacuated with transit buses brought in for shelter.
While everyone got out safely, the size of the flames prevented firefighters from getting inside to fight the blaze — and the flames spread because the homes are so close together.
Brampton’s fireworks bylaw allowed family fireworks on November 10 and 11 this year for Diwali.
Investigators will be working to determine the official cause today.
