Fire damages retirement home

Hamilton fire crews were called to a fire at the Aberdeen Gardens Retirement Home around 11:30 this morning.
The fire started in a third floor bathroom after an exhaust fan mounted on the wall fell into a garbage can. The building’s sprinkler system was working at the time and put the fire out.
All of the residents were safe and were taken to the main floor dining room. One person suffered smoke inhalation. Six rooms were damaged by water, and several residents will have to be relocated.
