Fire at Canada Bread plant

Canada Bread should be back up and running after a half million dollar fire at its Hamilton plant.

The fire started last night in a transformer near the building on Nebo Road on Hamilton Mountain. One transformer was destroyed, and a second was badly damaged. About 100 employees were sent home when the plant was shut down.

It’s not known if Tuesday’s high winds caused the fire, but it made putting it out more difficult. Canada Bread opened the $100 million bakery four years ago. It employs about 300 people.
