Fire at abandoned school in Hamilton

Hamilton firefighters responded to a multiple alarm blaze tonight at an abandoned school in the city’s east end.

They were called to St. Christopher’s Separate school on Greenhill Avenue just before four o’clock this evening. Neighbours say there was a lot of smoke coming from the school at the time.

The windows were boarded up, making it difficult for crews to access the fire. The school was surplused by the board in 2011 and has been empty ever since, but this isn’t the first fire at the building. There was a rubbish fire at the school last September.

The Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office has been called in to investigate.
