Fighting for education

Malala Yousafzia was shot in the head by the Taliban in 2012 when she was just 15-years old. She had been advocating for a woman’s right to an education. It was a miracle she survived and today she is seen as a source of strength for many people around the world.

Students at Ray Lewis Elementary School heard about her journey from Malala’s biggest fan, her father  who is also a United Nations Special Advisor for Global Education.

Children sat quietly and listened to the story of one student on the other side of the world who has beaten all odds.

After an attempted assasination, Malala Yousafzai has become one of the biggest educational advocates. And her story was told by her proud father.

Ziauddin Yousafzai: “She is very poised, she doesn’t shout, and still her message is very strong.”

Students at Ray Lewis school organized the presentation today and the grade 6 and 7’s created this beautiful wall mural for Malala.

The children in Hamilton were so inspired by the 16-year old girl and admire many of her qualities.

Brooklyn: “The lesson that I learned is that you can’t let anyone push you around, you have to stand up for your rights.”

Adam: “I admire her because she stayed strong and she stayed dedicated to live more.”

Barry: “She’s passionate about what she does, she just keeps going no matter what happens.”

Ziauddin Yousafzai left with just one message for Canadian students: “Value your education and value your life, because in these countries like in Canada and America and Britain and Australia in developed world education is taken for granted and it should be taken for granted I don’t say but I mean, they should value it.”
