The federal government has introduced legislation that will force striking Canada Post workers back to work.

Labour minister Patty Hajdu tabled the bill in the House of Commons Thursday morning.

Thousands of Canada Post workers have taken part in nation-wide, rotating walkouts over the passed five weeks in an effort to back their contract demands.

CUPW, the workers’ union, warns of a legal battle if the federal government passes the back-to-work legislation.

The strikes have caused a record-setting backlog with more than 1.5 million undelivered parcels and unsorted mail sitting postal depots.
