Feds reverse decision on same-sex parental leave

Two Hamilton moms are breathing a sigh of relief, now that the federal government has agreed to honour their request for parental leave.

Heather Holly and Sandy Woods welcomed their son Joshua with the help of an anonymous sperm donor. But because Sandy wasn’t a biologial parent and hadn’t adopted joshua, her request for three weeks of paid leave was denied.

After a report by CHCH’s Cindy Csordas, the government has agreed to reimburse Sandy for her time off work. She’ll be working with her local MP, Wayne Marston, to make sure same-sex couples don’t face the same discrimination in the future.
