At a press conference in Ancaster today the federal government announced the creation of an action plan designed to combat human trafficking across Canada.

With the creation of this action plan the Harper government is making good on an election promise to step up its fight against human trafficking both domestically and internationally. It includes the creation of a national human trafficking task force, education for police, and a $500,000 fund to help victims. Also they will support other nations in improving their own laws.

The announcement was made at the Old Mill in Ancaster today which included members of the RCMP along with national public safety minister Vic Towes and Hamiton Police chief Glenn DeCaire.

The creation of this action plan comes just two months after a Hamilton court handed down the harshest sentence in Canadian history in human trafficking. In April Ferenc Domotor received a 9 year sentence as the kingpin of a human trafficking ring that was run out of his home in Ancaster.
