Father of Canada’s flag passes away

A man who was instrumental in the creation of the Order of Canada has died.
John Matheson was also known as the ‘father’ of Canada’s Maple Leaf flag. He died late last week. On Monday, the Prime Minister paid tribute to him saying Canada has lost a great public servant. Matheson was a former Liberal MP and Second World War veteran. He lead a multi-party committee that chose the new flag to replace the old red ensign in 1965. He died Friday in Kingston at age 96.
