(Update)

A Beamsville family is in mourning after receiving horrible news early Monday that their son and brother had been killed on Merrittville Highway in Thorold.

As Lauran Sabourin reports, 20-year-old Brock Follows was on his way home early Monday morning when he lost control of his SUV and rolled over in a ditch.

Brock Follows was an energetic 20-year old. He loved boating, and skiing, and playing soccer, and being with his family.

“Brock had 14 hundred Facebook friends. He was loved by everybody he met. And he’ll be greatly missed.”

The family got the devastating news about 7:30 this morning.

Brock grew up in Burlington, graduated from Robert Bateman High School. He was set to begin his second year at Brock University. He had just moved with a group of buddies into a house in Thorold. Brock was on his home early in the morning. He had just grabbed some food at McDonalds, when at the intersection of Merrittville and Decew he lost control of his Nissan Pathfinder. The vehicle slammed into a pole.

When the Pathfinder rolled over, Brock was ejected. He wasn’t wearing a seatbelt. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.”

“Please, I know kids think they’re indestructible. Put that seatbelt on.”

Brock’s father Chris wants this to be a warning to everyone to wear a seat belt.

“I believe he would have been okay with a seatbelt. He wasn’t going very fast. He turned left, the roads were wet. We don’t know the circumstances. We only know the outcome.”

The outcome is horrible. Instead of helping Brock move into his new home. The family is faced with making his funeral arrangements.
