Fans brave rain at Honda Indy

The Honda Indy is in Toronto this weekend and while the race is the main event, the spectacle is all around the track.
For the fans, there’s lots to do and celebrate at the track this year. Thousands of people came out today regardless of the rain to take part in all the Honda Indy had to offer.
Fans took a break from the track and checked out food trucks, beer stations and live entertainment. It’s an event that the locals feel is important to Toronto.
“It brings everyone in the city and everyone in the outskirts to the city and it’s really just a great weekend to experience car racing and everything surrounding it as well,” said one visitor.
Some new events include a fire fit championship. The world’s fastest and fittest fire fighters compete in what they call the toughest two minutes of sports.
People from all over Canada came to watch another new attraction, a timbersport competition.
“We came to see the races but we also came to see the timber sports. I’ve never seen them before. They have never been close by our area,” said a spectator.
There are many attractions across Exhibition Place and one avid race fan gave his take on them.
“There’s lots of really fun things to do, like Honda World is really great. I’m going to go and do the pit stop challenge and there’s a junior red riders thing. It’s Honda bikes to be specific,” said the race fan.
The big part of the weekend comes down to the races. Fans gathered in the rain waiting for autographs from Oakville’s James Hinchcliffe.
“The fan support here in Toronto is incredible,” said Hinchcliffe.
So many supporters are hoping he will win a race here in Toronto as a Canadian hasn’t won since 2003.
