Famous for wonton soup, Niagara Falls donut shop reopens

(Updated)
It’s like a plot line from Seinfeld but it’s a real life story. A popular donut shop in Niagara Falls re-opened today after being closed for 7 months.
And people lined up at 5 am to get through the doors and order wonton soup!!!!
The line goes all the way out the door at the Country Fresh Donut shop on Victoria Street. And almost everyone here is ordering it’s famous wonton soup!!!
“I’ve been waiting forever it seems to get the wonton soup fix. Everybody loves it, the come from all over.”
“I’ve been waiting and I just heard yesterday and I was like ‘oh my God!!’.”
“It’s very, hearty, very warm, very good soup.”
“Best wonton soup in Niagara Falls”
But perhaps their biggest fan is Rick Schauebel. He’s been coming here almost every day since the day they opened 23 years ago: “It was greatly missed and so exciting when we found out two days ago it was opening up.”
Schaubel missed his wonton soup fix for almost seven months after a crash forced the restaurant to close.
In April, a car came plowing through the front doors here causing significant damage. Bricks were broken, windows smashed and furniture turned upside down. But no one was seriously injured. Insurance covered the damage, but they had no income for the time they were closed.
After months of construction the soup pot was back on today.
Co-owner John Tu: “Very exciting, I was here early. I came at 3:30 in the morning and tried to get ready and people came at 4 o’clock waiting outside.”
And with every savoury sip came the inevitable head bob!!!
This is a family business and the soup is made from scratch and mom makes all the dumplings by hand.
As fast as they could pour, bag or box it, the soup was flying out of the shop all day. It’s open 24 hours.
