Family of 15 displaced by fire struggles to find housing

The family who’s home went up in flames last week is currently living in a hotel because they say no landlord will rent to a family of 15 people.
There are 13 people from the family sharing two hotels rooms at the moment, 12 children and one father, while the mother and young boy stay at the hospital.
The family’s father, Ibrahim Al Ibrahim says it’s difficult to find a place to live.
“We can’t find any place to go so got to keep looking, you have to keep on looking every three to four days and it’s hard for us,” Al Ibrahim said.

A daughter of the family says landlords continuously say no to them.
“No one is accepting us to rent their house,” Rahaf Al Ibrahim said. “Whenever they ask how many children do you have, they say we are 13 children and my mom and dad and they just say no. This is hard for us.”
But, the family is celebrating some good news as the four-year-old boy pulled from the fire finally regained consciousness.

The boy’s father said he is very happy for his son, saying he thought he had died.
While the family are thankful everyone survived the fire, they did lose everything. A family friend Brie Van Zyl has stepped up to create a GoFundMe page to help out with their expenses.
“I did the GoFundMe, knowing her and being her manager I wanted to do something and it became personal and it’s what I would want someone to do for me,” Van Zyl said. “I really believe its all about community and we are put on this earth to help each other.”
The Al Ibrahim family says they will have to continue living in hotels until they find a rental while their home is rebuilt. Right now, it’s costing them about $500 a night for two rooms.
They say they have reached out to city housing but with no luck.
