Family of murdered St. Kitts man want answers

The family of murder victim Mark Gilby desperately wants to know who killed the St. Catharines man and why.
Gilby was a 58-year old father of three who was found dead in his downtown apartment Sunday afternoon. His body was found after someone he knew insisted that the superintendent open the door to see if he was okay.
Photos of murder victim Mark Gilby are the only things his sister Nancy and niece Pam have left.
Gilby was found dead in his Gale Crescent apartment in St. Catharines where he lived alone with his cat.
Mark had a couple of strokes. He moved into the public housing building about a year ago.
Nancy said: “He didn’t have that much himself. But he took a lot of people with emotional problems under his wing. He tried to help them out. Counsel them. Feed them.”
Gilby grew up in St. Catharines. He came from a large family.
Pam said: “My uncle. All in all, he loved to make people laugh. He just loved everybody.”
Nancy says her brother would call her at least once, sometimes twice a day. He called her about 7:30 Saturday evening and left a message on her phone. She was really
busy and didn’t get back to him. His body was found hours later on Sunday afternoon.
Police are still hunting for his killer. his family has a message for the person or people who did this.
Nancy said: “How could you do this?”
Pam said: “No matter what you don’t take somebody’s life. No matter what, you just don’t take somebody’s life.”
Mark Gilby is the second murder victim in St. Catharines in a matter of days. Last week 73-year old Judith Fraser was attacked in the parking lot of her apartment building. Her estranged husband has been charged with killing her.
Mark Gilby’s family is asking who would kill him.
Pam said: “We have so many questions. Why. Why would somebody do this to him.”
Nancy said: “We need answers is what we need. To see what happened. Who murdered him. And why is what we want to know.”
The police aren’t saying much publicly about this investigation. But what they are saying is they’re asking anybody who knew what Mark Gilby was doing in the days before he was killed to give them a call.
