Falcon chicks named & banded

Three peregrine falcon chicks who nest at the Sheraton Hamilton hotel have been banded and named.

They’re going to be called Beckett, Felker and Tiffany after Hamilton city landmarks. Anne Yagi from the ministry of natural resources says id’ing the chicks helps to keep track of the species’ survival.

“It’s important for recovery planning, after we band the chicks we know if they survive and where they end up in nesting territories and they could nest anywhere in Ontario, north, south or even as far south as Florida, so it’s important for us to know how well and successful our nests are doing. “

This is the 18th year that the ministry has worked on the project.
