Fake soldier sentenced

A Quebec man who pretended to be a veteran during a Remembrance Day service has been sentenced to a year’s probation and 50 hours of community service.
Franck Gervais pleaded guilty in March to unlawfully wearing a military uniform and a Medal of Bravery.
Gervais was interviewed by a TV station at the ceremonies in Ottawa last year. Shortly after it aired, questions were raised by a number of veterans about his identity and whether he was actually a soldier.
It turned out the 32-year-old is not a member of the Canadian Forces. His lawyer says his client didn’t mean to disrespect the men and women of uniform.
