Fading Gigolo is a comedy from actor/writer/director John Turturro. The film is centered on Murray, a cash-strapped bookstore owner played by Woody Allen. In a desperate attempt to make money, Murray calls upon the aid of Fioravante, played by Turturro himself, who is transformed into a gigolo in hopes to raise enough money to keep the bookstore open. After a random conversation with Murray’s dermatologist Dr. Parker, played by Sharon Stone, Fioravante’s new career takes off after being coerced into helping the doctor with her “plumbing” problems. With Murray acting as his “manager”, the pair quickly find themselves caught up in the crazy whirlwind of love and making more money than they expected. The film also features Sofia Vergara, Leiv Schreiber, and Vanessa Paradis.

While Fading Gigolo centers on a controversial topic, prostitution, John Turturro says in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly that he’s always been interested in films about prostitution and that the film “explores the cost of intimacy” for his chracters. “I’ve always been interested in the transaction that goes on, there’s always human overtones in that. In a lot of old movies, in the ’30s, a lot of people played street walkers or street hustlers or prostitutes and there’s something about it I found interesting.”

Fading Gigolo is rated 14A.
