A memorial has been growing in Nice today with notes and flowers offering sympathy to the families who lost loved ones in the tragedy.
The people who narrowly avoided death have shared their eyewitness accounts of what unfolded last night.
Laurence Olding was injured in the attack. He jumped over the wall of the promenade to escape the oncoming truck.
“We turned to hear lots of commotion and shrieking and shouting, and then we saw a truck coming down the promenade, probably 30 or 40 miles per hour, careering from side to side.”
There was panic, thousands were scattering and running for their lives.
“I seen one guy actually running and sobbing crying, I’ve seen people holding babies, screaming shouting “run for cover.” It was horrendous.” said Andy Shaw.
Since the beginning of last year France has been the target of terrorist attacks from shootings to bombings and after the last horrific attack yesterday on the country’s soil French tourists travelling here to Canada say their country needs to stay strong.
A young couple from the French capital attended the Bastille Day fireworks at the Eiffel Tower yesterday and anticipated an attack.
“They seem to be hitting us whenever they want.”
The motive is still unclear but Canadian tourists returning home from France are hesitant to return any time soon and some tourists who are still in Nice are trying to leave the holiday city in the south of France.
