The fallout continues from the Ottawa St “exile list” in Hamilton that surfaced last month.
The list included the names of 11 Ottawa St businesses that felt they were being targeted by the local business improvement association. a meeting held to address the issue quickly turned into a shouting match.
Today, representatives from BIAs across the city agreed to look at a code of conduct that could be adopted by all members.
Councillor Matthew Green calls it a good thing. “I think it creates a standard for how we conduct ourselves at meetings as neighbours in these business areas. I think it’s a stated standard that would allow us to be accountable should someone not live up to that standard there’d be an incident report and a better tracking of what’s happening on the street.”
Reps from BIAs across the city said they felt the fallout from the Ottawa St incident and hope a code of conduct would prevent a similar incident from occurring.
