Immigration is a common thread that runs through Oscar nominated Canadian filmmaker Philippe Falardeau‘s previous films, and that theme carries on into his latest project My Internship in Canada, about a member of parliament having to make a tough decision with the help of his wife and Haitian intern.

We talked about the film and Canadian politics with the director and two of the film’s stars, Patrick Huard and Suzanne Clément, during the film’s North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
