Today is the first day of exams at McMaster University, and the stress of studying can be overwhelming and tough. CHCH News reporter Brittany Gogo went to Mac today to find out how students are coping with exam stress.

Exam time is one of the most stressful times of the year at McMaster University. “I do definitely get stressed especially the night before. I get nervous and wonder if I have studied enough.” says one student. It is especially tough on students in their first or second year. “Because this is my first year – and university is different from highschool it is it is really tough.”

But there are ways to cope. Wellness Centre Director Rosanne Kent has some advice for stressed out students. “Remember to rest, take a break. Exercise, eat well – don’t just eat junk food , but eat something that’s nutritious.”

The student wellness centre offers mental health support and counselling, and a space for students to decompress. They also hand out healthy snacks for students who are too busy to eat.

And when dealing with exam stress, it’s all about balance. It’s important to take a break.

“If I am really stressed and I know that I can’t get any studying done, I will just watch a movie and it helps forget about things.”

“I take lots of breaks – I like to spend time with friends. I use the basketball court a lot.”
