Evans pleads guilty

The Stoney Creek woman who buried her dead aunt’s body in a shallow grave and then continued to cash her welfare cheques was in court Wednesday. Shirley Treadwell died of natural causes in 2009 but her niece Melinda Evans didn’t tell authorities. In court Wednesday, Evans pleaded guilty to improperly interfering with human remains and to fraud over $5,000. She was sentenced to two years in prison.
