Engineer: bridge should have been fixed right the 1st time

The Burlington Canal lift bridge will be closed to cars and pedestrians all next week, as it undergoes repairs.

But a man who reviewed engineering reports on the bridge say the problems could have been avoided, if the ministry responsible had acted on recommendations by the bridge inspectors. The repairs next week have to do with the cable that snapped on the bridge back in April. Officials at the federal public works ministry tell CHCH News that was only a temporary fix – the repairs next week have to do with rectifying the same problem. Lisa Hepfner has more.
