Firefighters rescued a person from an apartment fire on the Hamilton Mountain Wednesday morning.

Emergency crews were called around 10:30 a.m. to a four-storey apartment building at 805 Concession St. East for reports of a structure fire.

Firefighters searched the basement apartment unit filled with heavy smoke as soon as they arrived at the scene.

Crews quickly found and removed the occupant, and then brought them to hospital.

The apartment sustained $200,000 worth of damage.

The Hamilton Fire Department said all other tenants in the building have returned to their apartments and no other injuries have been reported.

The Ontario Fire Marshal has been called in to help with the investigation.
