Elderly woman missing in the cold found safe

An elderly who went missing in Burlington Thursday afternoon has been found safe.

Halton Police say Margaret McCormick walked away from a senior’s residence near Plains Rd. W and Waterdown Rd. around 2:30 p.m.

The 78-year-old has dementia and there was extra concern because she was not dressed for the frigid conditions.

Police say she was found around 6:45 p.m. in a wooded area about four kilometres away.

According to police, personnel from CN Rail spotted a person near the tracks near Highway 403 and Highway 6 and reported it to police.

McCormick was conscious when she was found and was taken to hospital where she is being treated for hypothermia.
