(Updated) Former Hamilton Mayor Fred Eisenberger is officially in the running for his old job.

Eisenberger filed his nomination papers this morning for October’s municipal election.

“I’m in the race because I want to focus on economic development. It’s a key issue for our city, the commercial investor tax base has been declining and continues to and we need to turn that around.”

“We have infrastructure that needs to be paid attention to and we will do that, make sure our foundation is sound in our city, that we don’t ignore our sewers and our water and that we make strategic investments to make our city better.”

He was mayor from 2006 to 2010 — a time that included the drawn-out fight over where the Pan Am stadium would be located. He lost to Bob Bratina in 2010. Bratina has said he is not running for a second term.
