Hamilton mayoral candidate Fred Eisenberger is promising to reduce poverty in the city of Hamilton if elected.

At a press conference earlier today, Eisenberger said nearly one in five children in Hamilton live in poverty.

“The truth is poverty is a reality for many people that live on the Mountain, Stoney Creek, Ancaster and Dundas and rural areas of Hamilton. In all corners of Hamilton. 35% of residents in the Ralston area are living below the poverty line and nearly 50% of children under the age of 6 are living in poverty as well.”

Eisenberger dropped off a food donation at the Neighbour 2 Neighbour Centre after his news conference.

If elected, he says he will work with the province to reduce the number of people who rely on food banks to get by.
