Edge of Tomorrow

Edge of Tomorrow is a sci-fi action film directed by Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity, Mr. & Mrs. Smith). Set in a future where aliens known as Mimics have invaded Earth, Tom Cruise stars as Major William Cage, a PR officer who winds up fighting for his life in the middle of a suicide mission. Inexperienced as he is, it doesn’t take long for Cage to get killed on the battlefield, but a twist of fate during the fight leaves him in a time loop, waking up at the beginning of the day before the battle even happened. With the help of Special Forces soldier Rita Vrataski (Emily Blunt), Cage turns the unending nightmare into a powerful weapon, using each repeated encounter to get one step closer to wining the war. The film co-stars Bill Paxton and Brendan Gleeson.
The film is based on the Japanese novel All You Need is Kill, a working title the film used before changing it to the more PG sounding Edge of Tomorrow. When producer Erwin Stoff first read the book, he immediately saw its potential as a feature film. “I knew it would make a fantastic large-scale feature,” Stoff recalls. “It’s exactly the kind of movie I love to make—big, exhilarating action with a really interesting narrative structure. I really liked the notion of someone being caught up in a war where the stakes are the very survival of humanity, and the character has to develop both the physical and emotional skillsets in order to make a difference.”
Edge of Tomorrow is rated PG.
