Ebola tests negative at London hospital

There’s relief in London, Ontario tonight, where results for two patients undergoing testing for Ebola at a local hospital have come back negative.
Health officials say early test results for these two patients, who are in isolation, show they do not have Ebola. However, they are doing other tests and until Ebola can be ruled out completely safety precautions are still in place.
The mother and her child were brought by ambulance to Victoria Hospital late last night. They were not admitted through the E.R, and were immediately isolated in a negative pressure room. They were tested for Ebola because they had symptoms that could be compatible with early signs of the disease. The Medical Officer of Health says they will continue to monitor the situation closely. The pair had arrived in Kitchener-Waterloo earlier this month from Guinea as part of the government assisted refugee program. There were no cases of Ebola in that refugee camp and they were screened before and after they arrived in Canada.
Dr. Chris Mackie says more test results are expected in the next few days. There’s no impact to patient or visitor activity at the hospital.
