Two people escaped unscathed after a fire gutted an east-end Hamilton home last night, it was all thanks to a brave and quick-thinking neighbour

Fire fighters say the fire was caused by an electrical malfunction in the home’s kitchen.

Officials say the electrical fire started in the kitchen then travelled to the second floor.

Fire fighters were called to the home just before 9:30 pm, but it was the actions of a quick-thinking neighbour that prevented this disaster from turning fatal.

Crews closed off Blair Avenue for several hours as they battled to put out the flames.
