Earth Hour’s tonight
Tonight people around the world are urged to turn off their lights for one hour to mark Earth Hour.
Between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m. local time, people are being asked by environmental groups to join with some utilities and power off.
Ontario electricity provider Hydro One says it will mark Earth Hour by turning off non-essential electrical equipment at its office facilities across the province.
In Hamilton, all unnecessary lighting in the City’s corporate facilities as well as the decorative tree lighting downntown will be turned off.
During last year’s observance, Burlington was able to reduce energy consumption by 6.6 per cent during Earth Hour. The City will once again be taking part in this initiative.
Some of the first events this year took place in Australia, where Sydney’s famous Harbour Bridge and Opera House went dark for the hour.
