Early byelection results

A handful of byelections are taking place across the country Monday night.

The closest one to the CHCH viewing area is in Bob Rae’s former riding of Toronto Centre.  The Liberal candidate Chrystia Freeland was doing some last minute campaigning with party leader Justin Trudeau. The riding is really a two party race between the Liberals and New Democrats. The NDP candidate is former journalist Linda McQuaig. She was also out knocking on doors, working on getting out the vote.

It appears Freeland has narrowly won the seat over McQuaig.

The Montreal riding of Bourassa has Liberal Emmanuel Dubourg holding a lead of 15 percentage points over New Democrat Stephane Moraille.

The governing Conservatives have easily hung on to the Manitoba riding of Provencher, with 57 per cent of the vote. But the lead in the other Manitoba riding, Brandon-Souris, has been see-sawing between Conservative Larry Maguire and Liberal Rolf Dinsdale.
