E. coli outbreak linked to romaine appears to be over

The Public Health Agency of Canada says the deadly E. coli outbreak linked to romaine lettuce appears to be over.

According to the agency, there have been 42 cases of E. coli across the country as of Wednesday, including eight in Ontario.

Of those, one person died while 17 others were hospitalized.

But the agency says there have been no reports of illness since Dec. 12.

Exposure to romaine lettuce has been identified as the source of the outbreak, but the cause of contamination has not been determined.

People are no longer being advised to consider other lettuces instead of romaine.
