Dump truck bucket stuck under highway overpass in Mississauga

Major delays are continuing in the eastbound express lanes of Hwy. 401 in Mississauga as crews work to clear the bucket of a dump truck that got stuck under an overpass.
The incident happened this morning around 8 a.m. on Hwy. 401 just before Mavis Rd.
Police say a dump truck appears to have been traveling eastbound with its bucket lifted high in the air before colliding with the Creditview overpass.
The force of the impact detached the bucket from the chassis and the truck continued driving on the highway.
Police have numerous questions as to the circumstances surrounding this incident such as whether the driver was even qualified to be operating the truck.
The bucket was stuck between the roadway and the overpass for several hours today, causing a complete closure of eastbound express lanes on the highway.
Police were assisted by engineers to determine whether the overpass received any structural damage.

The problems on the highway continued as a three vehicle collision occurred in the collectors lane right next to the scene in the express lanes.
Sgt. Kerry Schmidt suspects drivers were looking at the lodged bucket and not paying attention to where they were going.
Traffic is extremely delayed and backed up all the way into Mississauga while crews determine the structural integrity of the overpass.
