The Duchess of Sussex has gone public with the news that she suffered a miscarriage in July.

Meghan Markle wrote about the loss of her baby in an opinion piece in The New York Times
on Wednesday.

She says she is sharing her story to help break the silence about miscarriages.

“Losing a child means carrying an almost unbearable grief, experienced by many but talked about by few,” she wrote.

“In being invited to share our pain, together we take the first steps toward healing.”

British health officials say about one in eight pregnancies in which a woman knows she is pregnant ends in miscarriage.

Markle and husband Prince Harry have an 18-month-old son, Archie.
