A 48-year-old driver is facing several charges after crashing into a house in Pelham while impaired early Monday morning.

Niagara police say emergency responders were dispatched to a home on Welland Road near Haist Street for reports that a grey 2006 Ford F150 pickup truck had struck the home around 1:27 a.m.

There were no physical injuries reported from the family of six who live in the home.

The sole driver of the pickup truck attempted to run away through a hole that was created by the vehicle.

After speaking with the driver, officers formed the grounds to believe he was impaired and found empty liquor bottles inside the truck.

The suspect was arrested and taken to hospital for the treatment of what are believed to be minor injuries.

After the accused was cleared by medical staff, he was taken into custody pending a bail hearing set for later Monday.

The damages caused by the incident is believed to be major and the home has been deemed unsafe at this time.

Out of an abundance of caution, the Ford was not removed until engineers could attend the scene to assess the structural integrity of the home.
