Hamilton Police have seized a cache of weapons inside an apartment, and a 25-year old man is now in custody facing a long list of drugs and weapons charges…

Police say they found guns, drugs, knives and explosive material inside a unit very close to Tim Hortons field. The arrest comes as part of the city’s battle against gun violence. Hamilton police were told that there may be guns and drugs inside the apartment building here on Prospect Street South. When they executed their search warrant at 11 o’clock last night, that’s exactly what was found.

The guns have been sent off to the centre of forensic sciences for investigation. Constable Steve Welton says some of the guns were stolen from the Halton Region five years ago.

Hamilton police are relieved to get this collection off the street. “There were firearms with laser scopes, firearms with devices, illegal magazines , semiautomatic weapons, handguns.”

Police seized 10 firearms, ammunition and approximately 20 thousand dollars worth of a drug called shatter. Some people who live in the area say the drug “shatter” is becoming more popular. Shatter is a potent drug made from concentrated marijuana. Police warn it’s toxic and highly addictive. Users inhale the vapor.

“It’s a substance we are aware of and it is something we’re seeing in the community.”

Police arrested 25 year old Andrew Marshall in this apartment building at 1 Prospect Street South . Constable Welton says Marshall is known to police and is prohibited from having any guns in his possession. Marshall doesn’t appear to belong to a gang. Turns out Marshall’s apartment housed other dangerous materials, including items that could be used to make an explosive device.
