Drought map reveals abnormal dryness across Canada

Agriculture Canada’s most recent drought map shows most of the country has been abnormally dry.

Large stretches in western Canada were parched, while too much rain fell in the east.

This comes as Canada is experiencing its worst wildfire season on record.

“The size of the fires were surprising, I mean almost six times the normal size would be,” said Senior Climatologist David Phillips. “So the number of fires were not huge but the area burned was huge, it was hard to put those out.”

Phillips says so far this summer in Hamilton, 25 per cent more precipitation fell than normal.
