Driver receives additional charges after striking, killing man in Brant County

A 50-year-old Toronto driver is facing additional charges in connection with a fatal collision that happened 11 months ago in Brant County.

The collision took place on Highway 24 South shortly after 10 p.m. on Dec. 18, 2021.

Two SUVs collided with each other and closed the highway for six hours.

OPP officers from the Brant County Detachment say 40-year-old Norman Tate from Norfolk County was pronounced dead at the scene.

The passenger in the vehicle suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a trauma centre before being transferred to a Hamilton area hospital.

Police say the driver of the second vehicle, Shabbir Habib Dossa, was taken to a Norfolk County area hospital and was treated for minor injuries.

Dossa was initially charged with dangerous operation causing death and dangerous operation causing bodily harm.

Officers have now laid two additional charges against Dossa after investigating this collision, including operation while impaired by alcohol and drugs and operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Brantford at a later date.
