Ontario Provincial Police say a driver has died in an early morning crash on a Toronto highway.

It happened around 3:30 a.m. Friday in the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 near Dufferin St.

Police responded to reports of a collision involving a car that collided into the back of a transport truck that was stopped in a live lane of traffic.

Sgt. Kerry Schmidt says the collision caused a fire in the car.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

No one else was injured in the crash.

Schmidt says the eastbound lanes will be shut down for part of the day as police investigate.

All traffic is being forced into the collectors lanes near Jane St.
