Ontario Provincial Police say an adult driver and an infant have been seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash.

Emergency crews were called a collision on Lyons Line in Malahide Township, Ont. around 6:40 p.m. on Thursday.

Police say an SUV was travelling westbound when it collided with the back of a grain truck.

The driver of the SUV and an infant were transported by ambulance to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the grain truck was not hurt and remained on scene.

Act. Sgt. Ed Sanchuk posted a video late Thursday providing an update on the collision. Sanchuk appeared emotional while thanking the emergency personnel and members of the public who attempted to help the victims.

“To all the individuals who stopped to offer some type of assistance, I sincerely appreciate it. I just want to send out our sincere thoughts, prayers and condolences to the family and everyone who is affected by this tragedy tonight,” said Sanchuk. “As a father myself, I can’t even imagine what the family is going through right now.”

The roadway was closed for several hours but has since reopened.

Police are expected to provide further updates when information becomes available.
