A man has been arrested after a driver in a moving truck left a path of destruction while trying to flee from police on Wednesday.

Police say officers were in the area of Welland Ave. and Dorchester Blvd. in St. Catharines around 12:15 a.m. when a U-Haul moving truck collided with a parked tow truck.

The moving truck then fled the area at a high rate of speed. When officers turned on their lights and sirens to try and stop the vehicle, the driver left the roadway and caused roughly $20,000 in damage to private property.

Police say the driver then intentionally struck a police cruiser, resulting in $5,000 in damage.

The truck became inoperable and police arrested the driver.

Sean Gummerson, 41, is facing a slew of charges including possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and mischief over $5,000.

Anyone with information or who may have witnessed this incident is asked to contact Const. Cody Cole at 905-688-4111, ext. 1008894.
