Driver arrested after fatal single-vehicle crash in St. Catharines

Niagara police say a driver was arrested after a fatal single-vehicle collision in St. Catharines Monday morning.
The crash happened shortly after 3 a.m. near Eastchester Avenue and Bunting Road.
Police say a white Honda with three occupants had struck a tree.
Officers say a male passenger in his 20s was found to be in critical condition. Despite emergency efforts, the passenger died at the scene.
The second passenger, a 19-year-old man, was taken to hospital with what is believed to be serious non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers say the driver of the Honda has been arrested and taken to hospital for medical assessment.

Cody Michael Black, 29, of St. Catharines has been arrested and charged with impaired operation – cause death and impaired operation – cause bodily harm.
Black was held in custody for a virtual bail hearing at a St. Catharines courthouse on Monday.
Bunting Road between McPhail Crescent and Dunkirk Road, as well as Eastchester Avenue at McPhail Crescent were closed as police investigated, but have since reopened.
The collision comes as Niagara police released figures on the region’s ride checks for impaired drivers on Saturday.
Out of 350 ride stops conducted, one driver was arrested for failing a breath test, while two others received three-day license suspensions.
