Wednesday was the first day of school for more than 62 000 Halton students, among them were two Burlington boys who had their dream come true. Their mom walked them school for the very first time, thanks to a story aired on CHCH earlier this year.

Back in January, CHCH aired a piece about Patty De Guia, a single mother who lost her leg to cancer in 2007. Her home bakery had been shut down after someone reported it to the local health department. Shortly after airing, a GoFund Me page was set up for the mother.

“I got a phone call from a lawyer representing an anonymous donor who said that they saw my story and they wanted to help. He’s like can we just deal with you because we would like to offer you $40 000 for your leg.”

That donation, along with another $16 000 allowed her to get her $100 000 prosthetic leg. Now, for the first time in their lives, her sons Daschel and Ethan will have their mom walk them to school.
