Douglas Gale: 1930-2011

One of this station’s broadcast pioneers has died.


Douglas Gale died Thursday morning at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital.
While he was president of the station, CHCH became Canada’s top independent broadcaster.
He oversaw CHCH’s emergence as the movie station, and under his leadership CHCH was able to claim the world premiere of such movies as The Godfather.
Gale joined CHCH in 1955, beginning his climb as a commercial film splicer.
He retired in 1988, then returned in the early 1990s to program the station again, retiring for good in 1993.
Douglas Gale was 80. He is survived by his wife Shirley, son Scott and daughter Denise.
