Dollarama recalls 50,000 doll and toy furniture sets

For the second time this year, Dollarama Inc. is recalling a toy containing excessive levels of a chemical used in plastic.

The Montreal-based company says more than 52,000 Montoy doll and toy furniture sets sold between Oct. 16, 2017 and Oct. 8, 2018 have been recalled.

Health Canada says the toys may contain levels of phthalates that exceed the allowable limit and may pose a chemical hazard.

There have been no reports of injuries as of Nov. 8, but the agency says the chemical can pose serious health risks.

“Studies suggest that certain phthalates, including DEHP, may cause reproductive and developmental abnormalities in young children when soft vinyl products containing phthalates are sucked or chewed for extended periods,” said Health Canada in a warning on their website.

Consumers are advised to dispose of the toy or return it to the store for a full refund. The company says no receipt is required.

Back in August, Dollarama recalled more than 500,000 Skip Ball toys that contained higher than allowed levels of phthalates.
